The Seven Hills of Savuti
The Seven Hills of Savuti, collectively
known as the Gubatsa Hills which means 'place where water can be dug
in river sand', are no higher than 90 metres but given the flatness
of the surrounding landscape are quite spectacular. They are of volcanic
origin and are some 980 million years old. During the time of Lake
Mababe, they were islands in the vast lake. Today, pebbled beaches
created by the lake can still be seen at the base of the hills.
