South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
South Luangwa National Park is an
area of diverse wildlife populations on the Luangwa River. The savannah,
wetland and forest habitats are home to Thornicroft’s giraffe,
buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and numerous species of antelope including
waterbuck, kudu, impala, puku, and oribi. Lions and leopards are the
main predators in the park. Other species of animal include warthog,
hyena, baboon, and wild dog. The bird population is equally diverse
including species such as crested cranes, saddle bill stork, egrets,
vultures and wood ibis.
The range of fauna makes the
area perfect for walking safaris and night game drives, where seldom
seen nocturnal species can be encountered.
