Slender Mongoose - Cynictis
penicillata
Mongoose always appear to be
in a hurry and are often seen dashing across a road or oother open
area. They are yellow to red-brown in colour and the black tip to
the long tail is diagnostic. Unafraid of snakes, the slender mongoose
will attack both cobras and mambas. They are found almost everywhere
in southern Africa wherever they can find suitable cover and food.
A very common resident to Botswana. Slender mongoose will feed on
snakes, birds eggs, hatchlings, insects, rodents, and sometimes
reptiles.
