Duba Plains Camp - Okavango Delta in Botswana
The
Duba Plains Camp is located in the furthermost reaches of the Okavango
Delta. If you are looking for a true, untouched African safari experience,
this is for you. Duba Plains Camp is quite possibly the most remote
camp in the Okavango Delta, on a private reserve of 30,000 hectares.
Duba’s real treat is its exclusivity; it is well-suited for
those who want to be far away.
The safari camp is situated on a pristine
island surrounded by expansive plains which can be seasonally flooded.
Floods usually occur between May and early October, depending on
the rain levels in central Africa. Sometimes it can only be accessed
by aircraft.
Duba Plains offers many activities:
boating and mokoro (dug-out canoes) excursions, game drives in open
4x4 vehicles or walking safaris (at the manager’s discretion).
Night drives often provide opportunities to take pictures of Africa’s
elusive nocturnal animals in action.
This safari camp has fantastic and
diverse game-viewing opportunities, because of the easy access to
large islands, floodplains and marshes in the area. It is home to
lion, leopard, lechwe, elephants, large buffalo herds, hippos, and
even hyena dens can be seen. A large variety of the Okavango Delta’s
birdlife can also be found in this area, including wattled cranes
and slaty egrets. Watching lion prides hunt their buffalo prey,
often during daylight hours, offers extraordinary photo opportunities.
The safari lodge of Duba Plains
Camp is small and therefore very personalized. It accommodates twelve
people. There are six large tented rooms with an en suite bathroom,
hot and cold running water, flush toilet facilities and a veranda
overlooking the floodplain. After a full day of game viewing, you
can enjoy the excellent cuisine in the camp’s comfortable
dining room. Duba Plains Camp offers access to the untouched beauty
of southern Africa.
